Operation Obsidian : Shattered Peace

[United Balkan Republic]

Although the UBR was streched, the countries to the north could not be ignored to further increase their chances of surviving as a major player in Europe. For too long, Slovakia and Austria sat untouched by nations in fear of their military might. Now with a country to the south with greater might, the two countries grew in the shadow of the mighty empire Idalo had built. With infinite complecancy, the lesser races not inside of the UBR went to and fro about their nations, confident of their dominance.

A shattered peace was about to begin, and one of the hardest campaigns in the UBR's history was to begin.

The plan would be initiated first by the UBR Air Force fighters decimating Austrian and Slovakian fighters and achieving air dominance. Soon after, the Army Groups would flow to their designated areas and helicopters will destroy enemy cities and strong points with superior fire power. After army groups are in place, all will converge on the appropriate capitol, effectively cutting off enemy reinforcements from reaching it and destroying the will to fight with loss of political figures and important military structues.

Not at all very suprised by this attack, but never-the-less suprised by its swiftness, Austria begins to mount a defense in its cities and capitol. With air force taken out, they'd have to rely on air artillery.

[United Balkan Republic]

After discovering the Austrian forces mobilizing not only in Vienna but in Graz as well, Land Force D which was at first to be docile in the campaign was now put into an effective fighting force. One-hundred artillery pieces in the 8th Artillery Division southeast of Graz guarded by the 6th Airborne were positioned on top of a large plateau, guard by a downward slope to the north and south and dense mountains to the east and west. Graz itself was to be taken by force after prepratory bombardment, which followed for the 33rd, 34th, 35th and 36th Infantry, supported by the 7th Mechanized, were to push directly into the city, with the 37th nipping at their heels to the east. The 37th would then sweep west in a left oblique pattern, and set up mortars and other equipment south of town. The 13th and 14th Mountain would push directly from the east, while the 15th Armored would follow the infantry divisions in their direct attack into the city.

In Vienna, the city was burning. With the Austrian air force already decimated by UBR aviation units, helicopters flowed in and out of the city with ease, while F-01 Partridge fighters released their precision guided bombs on suburbs, military and civilian alike. The main targets were the Austrian AA weapons, which were hopefully being utterly destroyed by bombs from the high-flying F-01 Patridge aircraft, well beyond range of the bullet using AA tanks. The helicopters made sure they were clear of the AA weapons as well, hoping not to lose their precious air support.

Unopposed, the contigent in the northeast began to muster their plans for an offensive.

[Republic of Slovenia]

Noticing the situation on its norther border, the Slovenian army was being transfered there. Ljubljana justified this by saying it was needed for security. Border passes in the mountains were put under control of the Slovenian Armed Forces. Meanwhile, helicopters and aircraft were also responsible for border security. However, there were numerous cases of entering Austrian air space without permission.

[Swiss Confederation]

Noticing the invasion of Austria and the current threat of invasion it faces, Slovakia prepares its best (and probably last) defenses. The Ground Forces are mobilizing to defend the capital and major cities, while the Air Forces are only mobilizing Fighters and Helicopters (Bombers and Attackers will be stationary until further notice). The Training and Support Forces are stationed in their respective locations, and only a few divisions are being mobilized to assist the Ground Forces. The Struggle that will occur between Slovakia and UBR is in favor of the latter; something that, although tragic to the Slovaks, was expected when the UBR began its campaign.

Despite the Slovakians attempts to muster a powerful army, they were still vastly outnumbered, even while risking their entire country against the powerful UBR war machine.

The army had crossed through Slovakia's border like a hot knife through warm butter, and had completely encricled Bratislava - completing the link between Austria and Slovakia.

F-01 Patridge aircraft had observed that Slovakian forces were mustering in 3 main cities; Bratislava, Nitra, and Kosice. These 3 cities would have to be taken by brute force, and since they were spread out, they would be easy prey for the elite trained UBR soldiers with their powerful technology.

The bulk of Land Force E, the least powerful unit in Operation Obsidian, would converge on Kosice and surround it, bombard it with mortars and call in heavy air support, then destroy it. Land Force B would split into two groups, one that would take Bratslavia and one that would take Nitra, while two cavalry divisions would pincer the Slovakian 1st Elite Airborne division in Komarno. Even they could not stand up to twice the amount of men. The adjusted Order of Battle looked like this:

The Slovaks were in for quite a fight. As the UBR war machine orchestrated what would probably become a memorable moment in European history, the Slovak Ministry of Defense was preparing itself for worst case scenario, and rethinking their strategy as best as possible. They knew they didn't stand a chance - and they planned to come out of this war with the least casualties (and damage) possible.

BRATISLAVA -
In Bratislava, the Slovak Armoured made a blockade in all major roads leading to the capital - 60 or so tanks made the journey to the center of Bratislava an uneasy task. The Infantry provided temporary security to the capital, as the commanding officers and advisers prepared evacuation plans using secondary routes which the Ministry (hoped) would not be used by mobile UBR troops. The UBR knew nothing about the Auxiliary Plans.

All stationary Aircraft was ordered to be prepped and mobilized as soon as possible; control over the Skies was critical to surviving this attack. Helicopters outside the city center were mobilized, and Fighter jets were being prepped for defending the Slovak skies.

A few citizens were reported to have come out of their homes, each bringing with them a "valaška", or what is known as the national weapon of Slovakia. The proper authorities handled the situation. A citizen refused to obey orders, and was removed from the site by force, and escorted to the nearest shelter. The civilian, Alexander Tiso, made the following allegations:

"We will not tolerate these imbecilic tyrants who call themselves the 'United Balkan Republic'; they are a disgrace to Europe. The citizens of Slovakia will fight for our country - even if we have to sacrifice our own lives. They have pissed on our pride and dignity, and we will fight for what is rightfully ours - independence."

KOMARNO -
The Elite forces in Komarno were a hopeless cause; seriously outnumbered by UBR calvalry. Still, they fought bravely to fend off the incoming forces - they knew they had to defend their country.

TRNAVA -
It had seemed the United Balkan Republic had forgotten about the miniscule but useful forces of Trnava. The 1st Bomber Air Wing prepared itself to assist the capital, attempting to destroy whatever land troops they found in their path. It was a difficult task, but they were determined. The Infantry Division, which was already mobilized, did their best to protect the citizens of Trnava.

KOSICE -
The Training and Support Forces stationed at Kosice were preparing for the worst. Separated from the rest of the Forces, it stood alone against invading Land force E. They were outnumbered, but the T & S Forces had artillery and to try and defend their position. It was an almost certain defeat, but the Slovaks decided that if they had a chance, they were going to make the most of it.

NITRA -
The AA Division prepared itself to intercept every (if any) aircraft that was foolish enough to fly within range of its powerful rocket launchers. The Armoured Division prepared to fight the opposing Armoured forces (which were the same in numbers, but not necessarily in skill and intellect). The 12th Infantry Division would defend the city from enemy infantry.

The Israel Defense Forces have provided the United Balkan Republic with a small garrison of airborne reinforcements to weaken the ground units that will intercept them when they storm the city center. Realising the lack of anti air in some sections of the city, the Israelis will use this to their advantage to quickly strike with speed and power, forcing the Slovaks to spread their troops out even more.

Don't you think 100 jets for the suppression of a single city is overkill? Or for the defense of it?


Please, for the sake of all that is right, do not send Eagles and Vipers up against the F-01. War doesn't have to be that ugly. Not that you shouldn't use them otherwise.

[United Balkan Republic]

Bratislava had officially been surrounded by artillery and air forces. Due the F-01's immense stealth capabilties and the ability to launch missiles far beyond Slovak range, they bombarded the city into ruin, hoping to force it into surrender. Two new UBR Battlecruisers, the UBRS Tiro and UBRS Yetzka launched tomahawk cruise missiles against Bratislava from the Adriatic, further weakening the Slovakian defenses. With accurate precision, T-01 tanks and artillery forces began to completely decimate the city, recieving almost no returning fire due to the Slovakians lack of artillery.

In Komarno, the Cavalry further converged on the Elite Airborne troops, taking some moderate casualties, but ultimately began to secure the city and release it from Slovak grip.

In Nitra, T-01 Budapest MBTs and their crews launched HEAT rounds into the enemy armor, hoping to decimate it on impact. The T-55 rounds that the Slovaks used were no match to the T-01's superior armor defenses, and the entire division had only lost 2 to Slovakian land mines. The infantry, which were hopelessly outmatched by UBR forces, also delivered some steel into the advancing forces.

In Trnava, the 6th Helicopter Wing attacked the Slovakian defense bombers, hoping to eliminate them before they could get off the ground. Although they would suffer the same fate if they had taken off against F-01s, they could cause damage to much needed ground forces instead of outdated helicopters.

Suddenly, hostilities also opened up on Austrias southern border. As most of the forces protected the border, four groups launched an offensive from the secure border passes. Thus, the Slovenian army began its improvised offensive on Austrian forces.



The groups were named after (Slovenian) names of the places they were headed.

Seeing that their grand city and country was essentially ruined, the Austrian government surrenders to the UBR, unconditionally. Despite flak from radicals, many decide this to be the best course of action.
