Supreme Chancellor Johannes Drucker strode into his main office chambers where Heinrich Jaiger was waiting. Jaiger took another peek at the agenda list, striving for perfection, as always. He highly doubted that he left anything out, but it never hurt to make sure. The Chancellor, after circling the room, pacing, sat into his chair. The glass window behind him showed the city of Berlin thriving behind him.
"Guten Tag, Supreme Kanzler." Jaiger said stiffly. Jaigers aides saluted as the Chancellor entered the room.
"Indeed," was all the Chancellor said, "What is on todays agenda?"
Jaiger stepped forward, "Well, Internal Advisor Shcultz is currently unable to join us. He's down with the flu, I fear, so he came to me with this information."
"Is there a doctor at his house, even?"
Jaiger paused, "Er, yes, Kanzler," He shrugged and pressed on, "Anyway, he recently told me that we were getting more and more reports that our dock facilities on the coast of the North Sea are becoming increasingly more decrepit and unusable. Exports as well as imports are suffering, he tells me."
"Anything in particular? Why ship when I can fly it?"
Jaiger shifted uncomfortably, "Well, Supreme Kanzler, flying generally costs a bit more than shipping does, and it's always nice to have those facilities in tip-top condition...", then he added, "Don't you think?"
The Chancellor was silent for a time. Then he said, "Heinrich, my friend...", was all he said, before he began to mumble incorherently to himself.
Jaiger coughed slightly, "Kanzler?"
"...he walks back and forth, as if thinking to himself, what am I to do...", The Chancellor was saying to himself.
Jaiger waited patiently.
"Tell me Heinrich, " the Chancellor said suddenly, "What do the Dannish people think of us?"
Jaiger frowned, and absently checked his agenda sheet, but of course it said nothing of Denmark, "Uh, if I remember correctly, the vast majority of their people favor the German government even over their own government. As you know, Supreme Kanzler, after the collapse the EU, an authoritarian came to power in Denmark, and human rights have suffered as a result-"
The Chancellor laughed out loud suddenly, "It will do. Tell me about their naval shipyards."
Jaiger began to formulate a rough idea of what the Chancellor was planning. He couldn't say it particularly thrilled him. "Their geographic location makes their shipping businesses and facilities very desirable, Supreme Kanzler."
The Chancellor was silent for a moment longer, "I think it's time we've joined with our Dannish brothers once more."
Jaiger reacted instantly, "Shall I call Kanzler Hermann, supreme Kanzler?"
"Ha! I don't think so. This needs to be subtle. Call the head of the BND. We need his...special touch, in this matter."
Jaiger picked up the phone, "It shall be done."
God-willing, it would be done.
